Policies & Procedures

How fees, scheduling, and confidentiality work in this practice.

Fees

The fee for a clinical interview is $250. Psychotherapy sessions are an hour and are billed at $200 per session. Payment is made at the end of each session, and any portion not covered by insurance (co-pays) is due at the session. Clients without insurance coverage are welcome to discuss payment options before or during the first visit.

Psychological assessment is detailed work that includes administering tests, scoring them, interpreting the results, and preparing a report. Testing is often scheduled in blocks of three to five hours, sometimes in shorter sessions for children. Psychological testing is billed at $200 an hour and neuropsychological testing at $250 an hour. On average, a full battery takes 10 to 25 hours and costs $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the number and type of tests.

It is the client's responsibility to contact their insurance company to confirm the terms of their outpatient mental health coverage and to obtain any required authorizations before beginning. As a courtesy, we bill the insurance company each month. If the insurer does not pay, the client is responsible for following up, and for the session fees if the sessions are not covered.

Cancellations

Twenty-four hours' notice is required to cancel an appointment, regardless of the reason. Without such notice, full payment is expected for any session canceled or missed.

When an appointment is canceled, we will discuss rescheduling. If an appointment is missed without contact, the scheduled time cannot be guaranteed for the following week and may be offered to a new client. Continuity matters to good therapy.

Confidentiality

Everything discussed with your therapist is strictly confidential, and APA guidelines are followed closely. Third-party payers cannot see your records without your written consent.

If you have been in treatment before, it may help for me to review that work. In that case I will need your written permission to contact previous therapists or physicians, and we can complete a release-of-information form for the specific people and agencies you choose.

New clients can find the relevant patient forms and documents ahead of the first visit.
